How the margin waterfall works

Net price. Gross / list price minus Rebates and Discounts, plus any Markups or surcharges — what the customer effectively pays.
Gross margin. Net price minus COGS (cost of goods sold) — the money left to run the business.
Operating profit. Gross margin minus OpEx and Other costs — the true bottom line on the deal.
Every percentage (gross margin %, operating margin %, markup on COGS) is expressed against net price, the way commercial teams actually read it.
